It was exciting and scary!

Jack remembers…

Following the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk it was widely believed that an invasion of Britain was imminent and measures were taken to prevent open spaces from providing landing opportunities for enemy aircraft. In order to protect the Aldridge Aerodrome, Walsall Corporation provided some old buses, which were in what was called spare reserve, and each night these buses would tow old farm vehicles on to the Aerodrome, thereby making it impossible to land a plane.
