It was
exciting and scary! Jack
remembers…
Following the evacuation of troops from Dunkirk it was widely believed that
an invasion of Britain was imminent and measures were taken to prevent open
spaces from providing landing opportunities for enemy aircraft. In order to
protect the Aldridge Aerodrome, Walsall Corporation provided some old buses,
which were in what was called spare reserve, and each night these buses
would tow old farm vehicles on to the Aerodrome, thereby making it
impossible to land a plane.
