Mrs B. remembers…

… practically everybody grew veggies and that to eke out your rations, it was a question of having to… we spent most of our time in queues.

We’d get up early and find out were the queue was and what they were selling that day and think, oh I could have that for tea, put your coat on and perhaps wait there for two hours for perhaps a bit of corned meat or a cake.

I used to make my own bits of cake if I’d got the stuff to make it with, sometimes I hadn’t even got that.
