13 Caldmore Green - Housing Advice Centre
<< Caldmore
Area Housing Association | Appointment
of CAHAL Development officer >>
The
use of 29 Victor Street could only be a temporary measure and at the fifth
Caldmore Area Housing Association Limited (CAHAL) committee meeting on
5th June 1972, the possibility of buying Mr Lycett's shop at 13 Caldmore
Green was raised, although at £6,500 freehold, the Chairman felt
it was, 'rather expensive'. In July 1972, the Housing Society Charitable
Trust gave a loan of £7,000 towards the cost of the property, which
was then being made available at a reduced price of £5,000 leasehold.
The flat above the new offices was let to West Midland College students
at £5 per week, exclusive of extras. The offices at 13 Caldmore
Green were opened as a housing advice centre dealing with enquiries on
a voluntary basis and with all advice free.

The Housing Advice Centre was Walsall's first voluntary advice centre
and was the forerunner for the Neighbourhood Offices.
