Caldmore Area Housing Association

Inner city neighbourhoods were in decline during the 1950s and 60s. The Victorian housing stock, built for artisans and factory workers, did not provide the modern facilities expected by post-war Britain. Many families with children were rehoused on new council estates further out from the city centre.

Streets of terraced housing were awaiting 'slum clearance' and the gaps created by the bulldozers remained wasteland for several years.

Caldmore Area Housing Association emerged from a residents' action group as a direct response to the housing deprivations in post-war Caldmore. The Association became active in the improvement of the area, the renovation and modernisation of existing housing and the building of new properties. In 2002 Caldmore Housing celebrated thirty years as a provider of social housing.
