Capturing the Past is a Walsall
Council, Libraries and Heritage community history initiative.
February 2003 - May 2005 The initial Capturing the Past project ended in May 2005 and was funded by the EQUAL programme of the European Social Fund. The project took place in selected Walsall branch libraries and Walsall Local History Centre to enable local people to use the free ICT facilities available.
Capturing the Past EQUAL project enrolled 77 adults on family history courses. Many of the participants had not used a computer or the Internet before and some felt quite nervous about joining a class. Other work has involved developing an autobiography project, ‘A trip down Memory Lane’ as a free online resource, www.aclresources.net/memorylane Women with Gujarati heritage, who attend the Varta reading group, produced an autobiography template (Mari Jivankatha) in English and Gujarati. Information about this work is available online at www.aclresources.net/marijivankatha May 2005 - September 2005 Capturing the Past project worked on a scheme supported by Big Lottery Fund.
